Loon Models P-51 D-5
Fillet-less fuselage for the Tamiya 1/72 scale model kit
previewed by Steve Jantscher
I first heard about the new line of "No Cut Conversions" available from Loon Models last August, and eagerly volunteered to build one of the early "beta test shots". Here are my efforts with the 1/72nd scale P-51 D-5 parts used with the excellent Tamiya kit. My early version did not have a separate rudder, but that is now a little extra included with the set. These are just as advertised, drop in tight! My only concerns were having to use super glue for the construction. I really had no problems, after I purchased a fresh new bottle of the thin type of "CA" glue. I worked my way along the seams a little bit at a time, and before I realized it, I was done.
This will come in especially valuable for those wishing to model famous Mustangs from the 357th fighter group (one of the most notable units to receive the 'D-5 variant). This is a welcomed new addition for those of us who don't like to cut and hack our way to conversion success.
