Classic Warbirds #6
Malcolm Laird editor
reviewed by Steve Jantscher
Classic Warbirds are a series of soft cover books specializing in Australian and New Zealand subjects, but not limited to those areas. Each issue is approximately 64 pages long, in a 7x9.5 inch format, with many black and white photographs and line drawings, and some superb color profiles. The layout and photograph reproduction is first class, making these volumes very good value for the money. The articles are well written, including voluminous picture captions.
Issue number six is very representative of the series as a whole. Eighty four black and white, and three color photographs and eight pages of color profiles. The articles are quite diverse, including "Green Ghosts", about number 93 (attack) squadron of the Royal Australian Air Force flying Mk 21 Beaufighters. Some great aircraft art is shown. Following that is an article highlighting early Mk IX Spitfires and one on Pacific Corsairs, the later mostly centering attention on New Zealand Corsairs. Following this are five short appendixes covering, New Zealand corsair paint schemes, New Zealand paint specifications, some notes on the blue-grey RNZAF paint schemes, a short bibliography and some related web links.
Over all, this is a fine example of the Class Warbirds magazine series, and will appeal to anyone whose interests fall on the subject matter presented.
